Accelerated Reader
Concordia students, beginning as early as Kindergarten, use Accelerated Reader (AR) to increase their fluency and comprehension of written material.
The Accelerated Reader (AR) program at Concordia starts with a STAR test, which helps establish a reading level range for each student.
The student then selects a book in his or her reading level range, reads the book and takes a web based test. The student accumulates points based on the level of the book and the score on the test. The student strives to reach their goal number of points.
The goal number of points is established based on the STAR test results with input from the teacher and the student. Parents can also make recommendations relative to the goal.
Students can test on tens of thousands of different books. Because we cannot know the content of all the books available for testing, we ask parents and students to use discretion to make sure that the books being read are appropriate for the child’s developmental level and for a Christian school setting.
Typically, students receive some sort of grade or evaluation in Accelerated Reader (AR). Concordia has specifically chosen NOT to include Accelerated Reader grades as part of a student’s reading grade.
