ISTEP Results Show Growth at Concordia

On recent state mandated ISTEP+ testing, Concordia Lutheran School students moved from 84.7% passing in 2009 to 87.4% passing in 2010, a jump of 2.7%.

The test includes Math and English Language Arts (E/LA) tests for grades 3-8. Fourth and sixth grade students are also tested in science. Fifth and seventh graders are tested in social studies. That is a total of sixteen tests.

Anytime you have a smaller sample, one or two students’ tests make a significant difference either up or down in the total percent passing, so take that into consideration when examining scores.

Concordia students met or exceeded the state public school average on 15 of 16 tests. On average, 17% more Concordia students passed E/LA than the state average and 11% more passed math.

In comparison with just the non-public schools in Indiana (private, Catholic, Lutheran, etc.), Concordia students surpassed the average on 8 of the 12 math and E/LA tests. In comparison with comparably sized Lutheran schools in the area, Concordia students had higher passing percentages on 13 of the 16 tests.

Concordia Lutheran School is located within the Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS ) boundaries and the majority of our students reside in this district. In comparison with FWCS, Concordia students had 29% more pass E/LA, 22% more pass math, 34% more pass science and 31% more pass social studies.

Concordia students also had a higher percentage of students passing than East Allen Community Schools on all 16 tests.

Highlights for Concordia include the fact that on at least one test in every grade level at least 90% of students passed (E/LA: 3rd,4th,5th, 7th.and Math: 6th and 8th). We are very excited that 97% of 8th grade math students passed.
